In a significant milestone for India’s healthcare system, a total of 16,586 public health facilities have been certified under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) framework as of October 31, 2024, shared by Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare. The NQAS, developed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), aims to ensure that public healthcare services are safe, patient-centric, and of assured quality.
The NQAS framework, initially implemented in District Hospitals, has progressively expanded its scope to include Sub-District Hospitals (SDHs), Community Health Centers (CHCs), Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in urban and rural settings, including Urban Primary Health Centers (AAM-UPHCs), Primary Health Centers (AAM-PHCs), and Sub-Health Centers (AAM-SHCs).

To enhance compliance and ease of assessment, digital technology was integrated into the certification process. A Virtual Assessment module for NQAS certification of Ayushman Arogya Mandir – Sub-Health Centers (AAM-SHCs) was officially launched on June 28, 2024.
Further strengthening India’s diagnostic capabilities, the NQAS standards for Integrated Public Health Laboratories (IPHLs) were also unveiled on the same day. These standards aim to enhance the accuracy, precision, and reliability of testing processes across the country.

Detailed criteria for NQAS certification can be accessed through the Quality Assurance Framework on the NHSRCs website.
This achievement highlights India’s continuous efforts to standardize and improve the quality of healthcare services nationwide, ensuring equitable and reliable access for all citizens.
