
Minister for Health & Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Masood Itoo, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to establishing world-class healthcare infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir during a high-level review meeting on the progress of the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Awantipora project.
The meeting provided a comprehensive update on the project’s physical and financial progress, with discussions covering water supply arrangements, approach road construction, and other essential facilities. Senior officials, including the Secretary of Health and Medical Education, Executive Director AIIMS, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, and Chief Engineers from CPWD, PWD, and PDD, were in attendance.

Ensuring Timely Completion
Minister Itoo emphasized that healthcare remains a top priority for the government, underscoring AIIMS Awantipora’s critical role in delivering state-of-the-art medical services to the Kashmir Valley and beyond. She called the project a “beacon of hope” for people in remote regions who face challenges accessing quality healthcare.

In her directives, the Minister instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama to conduct monthly review meetings and submit regular progress updates. She also urged the project execution teams to increase their workforce and expedite construction, stressing the need to continue interior works during the winter months.
To ensure a seamless water supply to the facility, the Minister set a March 2025 deadline for completing the tube wells and bore wells. Additionally, she stressed maintaining high-quality standards in the project’s execution, ensuring adherence to timelines, and fostering collaboration among all stakeholders to avoid delays.

Minister Itoo highlighted that AIIMS Awantipora will significantly enhance healthcare accessibility, create employment opportunities, and boost medical research in the region. She said, “AIIMS Awantipora marks a milestone in J&K’s healthcare development, bringing transformative changes to the region’s medical ecosystem while paving the way for world-class healthcare services.”

During the meeting, the Chief Engineer of CPWD presented a detailed status report on the project, highlighting ongoing work and addressing critical challenges. The presentation outlined the current progress and efforts to mitigate bottlenecks.
