Bengaluru, October 24, 2024 – In a powerful gathering of healthcare leaders, policymakers, and innovators, the 14th Elets Healthcare Innovation Summit & Awards 2024, hosted by Elets Technomedia in partnership with eHealth Magazine, took place on October 24th at the prestigious Hotel Radisson Blu – Atria, Bengaluru. This influential event spotlighted the transformative potential of digital solutions in reshaping healthcare across India. The summit’s distinguished opening featured a keynote address by Dr. Adapa Karthik, IAS, Secretary, Government of Punjab, who emphasised the critical role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping the future of healthcare. “AI has been in development since the 1950s, but today it is reaching unprecedented heights due to three main drivers: exponential data growth, a sharp increase in computational power, and a considerable reduction in AI model training costs. In 2024 alone, industry giants like Google, META, and Microsoft have invested approximately $150 billion in AI, underscoring its potential to revolutionise sectors globally, with healthcare holding extraordinary promise,” Dr. Karthik remarked.

A marquee session titled “Setting the Agenda for a Healthier Future: Innovative Solutions for Accessible, Affordable Healthcare” brought together an impressive roster of experts. Shri B Sundar, IFS, Special Secretary, IT, Electronics & Communications Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh highlighted how the digitalization of patient records has unlocked new avenues for data-driven healthcare, facilitating better decision-making and improved patient outcomes.

Omprakash Subbarao, Technology Advisor, National Health Authority, addressed the need for democratising healthcare access, particularly for underserved rural areas. He advocated for AI models trained with India-specific data, ensuring tailored, relevant solutions for the nation’s healthcare challenges.

Devanand Kolothodi, Regional CEO, Aster DM Healthcare, shared his vision for improving healthcare access in remote areas and stressed the need for public-private partnerships to bridge affordability gaps, especially through initiatives like Ayushman Bharat.

The summit continued with thought-provoking insights from Joseph Pasangha, Group COO, SPARSH Hospital, Bengaluru, who discussed the shift from conventional ward care to telemedicine and teleconsultations, driven by the digital revolution. This shift has enabled healthcare providers to offer more accessible and efficient services, particularly for non-critical care needs.

Manisha Kumar, COO – Karnataka, Healthcare Global Enterprises Ltd., spoke on the pressing need to expand quality healthcare beyond major urban centres, as current tertiary care services are largely concentrated in a handful of cities. She also underscored the importance of bolstering IT infrastructure across the healthcare sector to facilitate comprehensive digital transformation.

Dr. Bala Shetty, MD, Pro-Chancellor of Malla Reddy University and Chief, Isha Diagnostics, emphasised the necessity of developing India-specific medical research and treatment models to enhance healthcare delivery. He argued for self-reliance (Atma Nirbharta) in healthcare to create a model that addresses India’s unique needs, leveraging homegrown research and insights.

Adding to the event’s significance, the summit marked the launch of the 175th commemorative issue of eHealth Magazine, celebrating the publication’s long-standing commitment to healthcare innovation. The special edition highlights pioneering efforts in digital health, AI, and data-driven solutions, reinforcing eHealth’s role as a catalyst for transformation in the sector.

The summit featured a series of specialised panels, each exploring vital topics in healthcare’s digital evolution:

• “Leveraging Gen AI & ML for Ensuring Equitable Access & Improving Overall Healthcare Delivery” examined how advanced algorithms can help close accessibility gaps in healthcare.
• “Ensuring Preparedness and Response: Leveraging Data and Analytics for Improving Healthcare Decision-Making” showcased data-driven strategies for enhancing emergency preparedness and efficient care delivery.
• “Securing Healthcare’s Digital Future: Amplifying India’s Healthcare Cybersecurity Capabilities” discussed strategies to fortify healthcare’s cybersecurity, a critical need in today’s digital era.
• “Emerging Tech Innovations for Laying Foundations for a New Era of Patient Safety & Patient Experience” highlighted cutting-edge technologies designed to enhance patient trust, experience, and safety.
