In a strategic move to enhance the export of medical devices manufactured in Uttar Pradesh, the state government is setting up specialised medical device parks and a comprehensive digital IT framework for the Export Promotion Council-Medical Device (EPC-MD). Following Chief Minister Yogi’s vision, this initiative includes an app, web portal, and robust IT solutions designed to streamline logistics, connectivity, and operational processes to empower medical device exports.

The planned app-based platform for EPC-MD will incorporate role-based accessibility, a three-tier security structure, cloud storage, and extensive data management capabilities to improve access, approvals, and monitoring of export business blueprints. It will serve as a ‘one-stop solution’ to facilitate seamless coordination, offering exporters real-time data on project approvals and support for production expansion within the state.

Under the Uttar Pradesh Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Policy 2023, this ambitious project is aimed at bolstering UP’s footprint in the medical device market over the next five years. To support this growth, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is developing North India’s first dedicated medical device park, covering 350 acres and delivering benefits such as subsidized utilities, warehousing, and reimbursements for skill development, patents, and quality certifications.

Key features of the EPC-MD digital IT platform will include a disaster recovery plan, a data center, a social media setup, a reimbursement claim portal, a payment gateway, and a micro-website for showcasing at international and national exhibitions. The digital framework will provide the following core support:

• Guidance and Support: Offers essential information to exporters regarding market access and global regulatory requirements.
• Promotional Framework: Drives international awareness for Indian-made medical devices.
• Communication Channels: Facilitates direct engagement with exporters on technical standards and trade policies.
• Action Plan Development: Positions UP’s medical device industry in international forums to highlight the sector’s contributions.
• Industry Solutions: Addresses manufacturing, quality, and trade-related challenges.
