ICMR

In a significant step toward promoting renewable energy in healthcare research, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN). This collaboration is set to bolster solar power usage across ICMR institutes nationwide, aligning with India’s vision of a greener, self-reliant future under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.

As part of this partnership, NVVN will oversee the supply, installation, testing, and maintenance of rooftop solar panels at 15 ICMR institutes, with a total capacity of 4,559 KW. This initiative includes a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) that ensures a fixed solar tariff for 25 years, ensuring long-term cost savings and sustainability for ICMR facilities.

With seven ICMR institutes already using solar energy from previous projects, this MoU expands the effort to more facilities, significantly reducing both energy costs and carbon emissions. By embracing solar power, ICMR continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainability, contributing to India’s national renewable energy targets and reinforcing its leadership in eco-friendly practices within healthcare research.

This partnership is poised to accelerate India’s drive toward clean energy in healthcare, positioning ICMR as a key player in fostering sustainable, future-ready research environments.
