In a historic milestone for Jordanian medical advancements, the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) has successfully completed the country’s first robotic radical hysterectomies. This groundbreaking achievement was made possible through the expertise of Dr. Raj Nagarkar, a leading oncologist from HCG Manavata Cancer Centre (HCGMCC) in Nashik, India.
Dr. Raj Nagarkar, renowned for his pioneering work in robotic-assisted cancer surgery, played a pivotal role in these landmark procedures. The surgeries, led by Dr. Qais Shatnawi of KHCC, were performed on two women aged 40 and 42, both diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Dr. Nagarkar’s contribution was instrumental in ensuring the successful execution of these complex operations.

Endometrial cancer, which originates from abnormal cell growth in the lining of the uterus, can spread to other parts of the body if left untreated. The robotic radical hysterectomies performed at KHCC involved the removal of the uterus, cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and surrounding tissues, marking a significant advancement in minimally invasive cancer treatment.

In a statement reflecting on his experience, Dr. Raj Nagarkar expressed, “Assisting in Jordan’s first robotic radical hysterectomies at KHCC was an incredibly inspiring experience. The success of these surgeries is expected to pave the way for the adoption of advanced robotic techniques in Jordan, particularly in oncology. This achievement underscores the power of collaboration and innovation in advancing healthcare. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Mahmoud Al Masri for his visionary leadership and to Dr. Qais Shatnawi for his insightful guidance during these surgeries.”
The King Hussein Cancer Center, known for its dedication to excellence in cancer care, has now joined a select group of institutions worldwide capable of performing such sophisticated robotic surgeries. This landmark event not only enhances the collaboration between the Indian and Jordanian medical communities but also sets a new benchmark for cancer care in the region.
Dr. Mahmoud Al Masri, Chairman of the Department of Surgery at KHCC, lauded the collaboration, stating, “Dr. Raj Nagarkar is a pioneer in robotic surgery, and we are immensely grateful for his invaluable contribution to Jordan’s first robotic radical hysterectomies. This achievement marks a significant step forward in cancer care and highlights Jordan’s commitment to investing in advanced medical technologies.”

Dr. Nagarkar anticipates further progress in robotic surgery, stating, “This is just the beginning. The successful execution of these surgeries showcases the potential of robotics in revolutionizing cancer treatment on a global scale. I look forward to continued collaborations that push the boundaries of medical innovation.”
With these successful procedures, KHCC has set a new standard in cancer treatment, offering patients enhanced precision, reduced recovery times, and improved outcomes through advanced robotic techniques.
