The Karnataka government has reassured the public that there is no cause for concern regarding the mpox outbreak recently reported in some African countries, as no cases have been detected in India to date. Karnataka’s Medical Education Minister, Sharan Prakash Patil, emphasised that the state is fully prepared to manage the situation should any cases arise.
During a departmental meeting held in Bengaluru, Minister Sharan Prakash Patil confirmed that the state government has taken all necessary precautions to ensure public safety. “There is no need for alarm as no mpox cases have been reported in India so far,” he stated. The minister highlighted that the infection, which typically resolves on its own within two to four weeks, is primarily transmitted through prolonged close contact with an infected individual.

To bolster preparedness, the Karnataka government has set up free testing facilities at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru. “We have arranged for free testing at Victoria Hospital to ensure that we can quickly identify and manage any potential cases,” Minister added.

In addition to state-level measures, the central government has issued guidelines and implemented screening at international airports to prevent the entry of the virus into the country.
Minister concluded by assuring the residents of Karnataka that the state is well-equipped to handle the situation and that there is no reason for undue worry. The government remains vigilant and committed to safeguarding public health.
