Dr. M Ampareen Lyngdoh, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, inaugurated the new X-ray unit at the Smit Primary Health Centre (PHC) today. The event saw the presence of notable officials including Dr. Joram Beda, Commissioner and Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, and Dr. F.V. Kharshiing, Director of Health Service (MI) amongst others.

In her address, Dr. Lyngdoh emphasized the dual purpose of the visit: to inaugurate the X-ray facility and to review the ongoing development work at the PHC. She mentioned that during her previous visits, local leaders (Dorbar) had requested the upgrading of the PHC to a Community Health Centre (CHC). She assured that with land availability confirmed, engineers are already working on the project.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Dr. Lyngdoh stressed the need for a strong relationship between government officers and the local community to ensure the successful completion of health projects. She urged health department officials to actively follow up on the Dorbar’s proposal to upgrade the PHC.

“Our primary goal is to serve the people, regardless of who the patients are. We must ensure that lives are saved,” Dr. Lyngdoh stated. She called on doctors and officials to work closely with the Dorbar Shnong (local governing body) for the efficient functioning of the PHC.

The inauguration of the X-ray unit marks a significant step towards enhancing healthcare services in the region, aiming to provide better diagnostic facilities and improve overall health outcomes for the community.
