In a significant move towards enhancing accessibility to affordable medicines across India, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers and Health & Family Welfare, has launched a pioneering credit assistance program for Jan Aushadhi Kendras. The initiative aims to bolster the network of Jan Aushadhi Kendras, which has seen remarkable growth, expanding from a mere 80 units in 2014 to around 11,000 units nationwide today.

During the inauguration ceremony held recently, Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the vital role of these Kendras in providing essential medicines to millions of people daily, ensuring substantial savings and improved access to necessary healthcare. He underscored the government’s commitment to strengthening the procurement process, expanding product offerings, and maintaining quality standards to benefit citizens.

The collaboration between the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marks a significant milestone. Under this partnership, project loans up to Rs. 2 lakhs will be extended to small entrepreneurs operating Jan Aushadhi Kendras, facilitating their financial autonomy and modernizing the Kendra network.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mandaviya expressed optimism regarding the transformative potential of the SIDBI-PMBI MoU, especially for small and new entrepreneurs. He urged stakeholders to disseminate information about the initiative at the grassroots level to maximize its benefits.

The credit assistance program builds upon the success of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana, which has substantially reduced out-of-pocket expenditure on medicines for Indian families. With plans to increase the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras to 25,000 in the next two years, the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to providing affordable and quality healthcare to all citizens.

The collaboration between SIDBI and PMBI signifies a concerted effort to support entrepreneurs and leverage digital infrastructure for seamless credit disbursal. By providing working capital and project loans at competitive interest rates, the program aims to empower entrepreneurs and strengthen the Jan Aushadhi Kendra ecosystem.

Key officials including Shri Sivasubramanian Raman, Chairman & Managing Director of SIDBI, and representatives from the Union Government graced the inauguration ceremony, highlighting the collective commitment towards ensuring accessible healthcare for all.

The launch of the credit assistance program heralds a new era in the Jan Aushadhi Kendra initiative, reaffirming the government’s pledge to prioritize affordable healthcare and empower grassroots entrepreneurs in the healthcare sector.
