In Short

  • Professor Mahesh Verma, VC of GGSIPU, has been appointed to oversee DPSRU amidst an alleged faculty recruitment scam.
  • The removal of DPSRU’s VC and registrar has been sanctioned, with an FIR authorized against them and six other officers implicated in the purported scam.

In a significant development, Mahesh Verma, the Vice-Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), has been entrusted with additional responsibilities as the head of Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU). This decision was made by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, who serves as the Chancellor of DPSRU, in light of recent allegations surrounding the university’s faculty recruitment process.

The move follows the removal of DPSRU Vice-Chancellor Ramesh Goyal over his alleged involvement in a recruitment scam spanning the years 2017-2019. Alongside Goyal, Professor Harvinder Popli, the registrar of DPSRU, has also been relieved of his duties. The allegations prompted Saxena to call for an external investigation into the matter, with an FIR set to be filed against Goyal and six other university officials.

In accordance with the directive issued by the Delhi government, Mahesh Verma will assume the additional role of Vice-Chancellor at DPSRU until a permanent replacement is appointed. Notably, no extra remuneration will be provided to Verma for this added responsibility.

This decision underscores the commitment of the authorities to ensure transparency and integrity within the higher education sector. As DPSRU navigates through these challenging times, stakeholders remain optimistic about the institution’s ability to uphold its academic standards and fulfill its mandate of advancing pharmaceutical sciences and research in the region.
