In a significant stride towards fostering healthier rural communities, Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Shri Kapil Moreshwar Patil, is all set to inaugurate a comprehensive three-day National Workshop on Healthy Village towards Healthier Tomorrow on January 18, 2024, at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. This collaborative effort, organized by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj in partnership with the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department of Andhra Pradesh, aims to showcase exemplary strategies, convergent actions, and innovative models to promote health and well-being at the grassroots level.
The workshop is expected to draw over 800 participants from 24 states and union territories, including Deputy Chief Minister and Panchayati Raj & Rural Development Minister, Shri Budi Mutyala Naidu. Distinguished dignitaries such as Secretary of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Shri Vivek Bharadwaj, and Chief Secretary of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. K. S. Jawahar Reddy, will also be present.

The central theme of the event is the Localization of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs) in Gram Panchayats through Adopting Thematic Approaches, with a particular focus on Theme 2: Healthy Village. The workshop aims to address multifaceted challenges in rural health, emphasizing the pivotal role of Gram Panchayats in ensuring quality health services and monitoring health parameters.

Interactive group discussions will delve into a spectrum of critical health topics, including preventive measures against communicable and non-communicable diseases, addressing malnutrition across various demographic segments, palliative care for the elderly and individuals with special needs, and the role of Gram Panchayats in combating lifestyle diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and asthma.

Moreover, the program will explore the vital subjects of substance abuse, including narcotic drugs, harmful use of alcohol and tobacco, sexual and reproductive health care services, and family planning. The participating states and union territories will contribute insights and strategies through presentations, fostering a collaborative environment for knowledge-sharing.
The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj’s broader thematic approach to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming to bring about ‘local action’ for a ‘global plan.’ Gram Panchayats play a crucial role in envisioning and executing transformative measures for comprehensive primary health care services, integrating preventive and curative facilities, and ensuring overall well-being.
The workshop is poised to be a unique platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and strategizing, bringing together policy makers, government officials, experts, and Panchayat representatives. Stay tuned for extensive coverage on this groundbreaking event as it unfolds, contributing to the collective efforts to build healthier villages and communities across the nation.
