
The UAE Cabinet recently made a pivotal decision to form the board of directors for the Emirates Drug Establishment, a move set to enhance the nation’s stature in the pharmaceutical and medical industries. The board will be chaired by Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, reflecting the country’s commitment to integrating trade and industry.
Vice-chairing the board is Dr. Maha Taysir Barakat, Assistant Minister for Medical Affairs and Life Sciences at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The board also includes distinguished members like Dr. Essa Abdulfattah Kazim, Governor of the Dubai International Financial Centre; Badr Al-Olama, Acting Director General of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office; Dr. Amer Ahmad Sharif, CEO of Dubai Academic Health Corporation; Dr. Farhan Malik, Group CEO of PureHealth; and Professor Christopher Evans, a notable scientific researcher and businessman. Additionally, a youth representative, nominated by the General Secretariat of the Cabinet, will also serve on the board.

In a significant appointment, Dr. Fatima Alkaabi has been tasked with the duties of director general of the establishment, signifying a progressive step in leadership.

The Emirates Drug Establishment is poised to strengthen the UAE’s global presence in the pharmaceutical and medical sectors. It aims to foster research and development, provide an encouraging environment for pharmaceutical investments, and boost the production, development, and export of high-quality medical and pharmaceutical products. A key focus will also be on ensuring the availability, quality, effectiveness, and safety of these products, underlining the UAE’s commitment to healthcare excellence.
