Gandhinagar will host the three-day India MedTech Expo (IMTE-23) in association with G20 Health Ministers’ meeting in August. The skills of the Indian medical device industry will be shown on this occasion as a result of India’s G20 Presidency.

The government will organise the event along with the industry, showcasing the industry’s skills while also providing opportunities for networking and exploring new worldwide collaborations for the sector’s expansion in India.

According to a release from the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, the Department of Pharmaceuticals is preparing to host the massive first-time national-level expo on the medical devices sector for three days from August 18 to 20, 2023, at Helipad Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Gandhinagar will host the G20 Health Ministers’ Conference from August 17–19.

India MedTech Expo, which was originally scheduled to take place in January 2023 but was postponed due to overwhelming support from the medtech sector, received a great deal of interest. The Department of Pharmaceuticals’ plan to hold the event in August 2023 in conjunction with the G20 health ministers’ meeting will give this emerging industry the much-needed boost it needs.

According to the statement, India currently produces a wide range of device categories, from consumables to implantable medical devices. The medical device business is the largest of all the sectors in the healthcare market. High-end medical equipment like CT scans, MRIs, LINACs, and other devices are produced domestically in the nation with the help of the PLI plan.

“About 0150 startups, more than 275 Indian and international medical device companies and MSME units, and about 50 research institutions will be participating in the Expo. About 200 foreign buyers will be hosted for B2B (business-to-business) engagement,” the ministry said.

The medical device market in India is now projected to be worth USD 11 billion. The sector has shown a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10–12% over the past ten years and has the potential to reach USD 50 billion by 2030.

The projected Expo, according to the government, will raise awareness of the global medical device ecosystem and help give the Indian medtech industry a name.
