Four children have died of measles-rubella in the last two months while more than 40 others are affected by the disease in Jharkhand‘s Dhanbad district. While two children died in Govindpur, the other two were reported from Nirsa and Tundi.

All these cases have been reported from the rural areas of Dhanbad. The state’s health department has given an alert while special teams have been assembled to conduct operations in the affected areas.


The maximum number of cases are from Govindpur block, where 22 children who have been diagnosed with Measles-Rubella have been identified. Similarly, eight children are suffering in Nirsa, four in Tundi, and three in Jharia.

An alert has been issued in the state and special teams have been formed to conduct operations in the affected areas, especially in the rural areas of the district. If the number of patients increases further, the entire district can be declared a Red Zone. Presently, it has been kept in the Yellow Zone.
