38 cases of Omicron

Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh and Kerala reported their first cases of the Omicron virus taking the total tally of cases in the country to 38. Till now six states and two union territories have reported cases of the Covid-19 variant that has spread its presence in 63 countries across the globe.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that the new Omicron coronavirus strain will surpass the Delta variant in the pace of spreading, the reason for which is yet to be ascertained. However the WHO has added that the new strain is less dangerous than the Delta variant.

Maharashtra tops the list with 18 cases of the Omicron variant. Meanwhile, 7,350 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in the country, as per the data shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. 202 deaths in the last 24 hours were also logged in and a recovery rate of 98.37 per cent. India’s Cumulative #COVID19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 133.17 crore with over 65.66 crore Covid tests conducted till date.

Strengthening the country’s fight against Omicron, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in Dibrugarh, Assam has created a testing kit that will be able to detect the virus in two hours. According to reports, the kit is now being produced on a bulk basis by GCC Biotech, a Kolkata based company on a PPP model.
