Medical College in Dharwad

The rising number of cases in a medical college in Karnataka’s Dharwad has turned it into a COVID-19 cluster. According to state health officials, the number of students and staff infected with coronavirus went up to 182 from 66 a day before as 116 medical college students have tested positive.

The infection spread began after students had attended a function held on November 17 in the SDM College of Medical Sciences campus. The infected patients have not shown serious symptoms associated with the virus as they have all been administered both the doses of COVID-19 vaccine. As a preventive measure, a holiday has been declared in educational institutions in a radius of 500 meters near the college till Sunday.


The state health department has decided to test around 3,000 staff and students at the college and hospital (clinical and non-clinical) today. At least 1,000 people have been tested till now, and their reports are awaited. Karnataka is among the several states where the number of Covid cases has decreased in the last few weeks.
