The covid-19 vaccine doses have surpassed the 100 crore mark in India. As per the CoWin portal, 70 crore plus people have received the first dose whereas 29 crore people have been administered complete doses. The states which are leading the vaccination charts are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.
Commenting on India surpassing the 100 crore mark, Dr. VK Paul, Member-Health at NITI Aayog, said that it’s remarkable to reach the 100 crore billion dose mark for any nation, an achievement in just over nine months since the vaccination program started in India.

However, he also raised his concern for the number of the population who are still unvaccinated. “25% of adults, who are eligible to receive free vaccination, are still unvaccinated. Efforts must go forward to vaccinate those who haven’t taken the first dose,” said Dr. Paul.

The vaccination drive was started in India on January 16, 2021. The first phase vaccine dose was for health care workers, and from February 2 the vaccination for frontline workers started. The next phase was started from March 1 for people over 60 years of age and those aged 45 and above with specified conditions. From April 1 vaccination for all people aged over 45 years startedwhile the vaccination drive began for those above 18 from May 1 this year.
