The three-dose needle-free Covid-19 vaccine ZyCoV-D by Zydus Cadila is likely to be rolled out in early October, reported ANI quoting sources. The ZyCoV-D had received the Drugs Controller General of India or DCGI’s Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) on August 20. This development had made the first-ever Covid-19 vaccine in India for use for children in the 12-18 years age group.
The news agency quoted the Zydus group’s Managing Director Dr Sharvil Patel as saying, “The supply of vaccine will begin by mid-September and from October onwards. The supply will be scaled up to 1 crore doses a month. We can scale up production of a vaccine up to 1 crore a month from October at the new production plant. It is expected to supply 4-5 million doses till January 2022.”Zydus Cadila’s ZyCoV-D Covid-19 Vaccine Likely to be Rolled out Early October.
To be administered on day 0, day 28 and day 56, the three-dose Zydus Cadila vaccine is the world’s maiden plasmid DNA vaccine for the Covid-19. Earlier, the Department of Biotechnology or DBT said that when the Covid-19 vaccine ZyCoV-D is inoculated into a person, it produces a spike of protein of the Sars-CoV-2 virus as well as elicits an immune response. The phase-III trials of the vaccine showed an efficacy of 66.6% for symptomatic cases as per early analysis and results.
