Pashupati Kumar Paras is the new Minister of Food Processing Industries. A Member of Parliament of Lok Sabha from Bihar’s Hajipur constituency, he was inducted as a Cabinet Minister into the Modi government and allocated the Ministry of Food Processing Industries after a major Cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries portfolio was with Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar. Also, Prahalad Singh Patel assumed the office of the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries.

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries has gained more weight in past years as the Modi government focused on growing the fruits and vegetable processing level for reducing wastage. With over four decades of experience in politics, Paras, brother of late Ram Vilas Paswan, headed Lok Janshakti Party’s Bihar unit. At present, he is the national president of the party’s breakaway faction. In 2019 Lok Sabha election, he made his debut in the Parliament from Hajipur.
