The Kerala Health minister Veena George has informed that the state has witnessed three additional Zika virus cases. This has taken the total number of Zika virus cases to 18. According to George, a 22-month-old child was found to be infected with Zika Virus, in addition to a 29- year-old health worker and a 46-year-old man has been infested with mosquito-borne diseases.

The state government, she added, has made arrangements for testing facilities at Thrissur, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram medical colleges as well as at the Alappuzha unit of the National Institute of Virology (NIV).

George said that 27 samples in two batches were dispatched for testing, and 26 of these have been found to be negative. On Sunday, three were found infected out of the third batch with eight samples.

As per the state health department, Kerala has received 2,100 test kits from NIV Pune. Of those, Thiruvananthapuram received 1,000, Alappuzha 500, and Thrissur and Kozhikode have each received 300.
