Director General of Indian Council for Medical Research Prof Balram Bhargava has been tested positive for Covid-19. The 59-year old cardiologist has been admitted to AIIMS, reports say. Reportedly, the ICMR chief got COVID infected 7-8 days ago and was under home isolation. He was admitted to AIIMS trauma centre, a dedicated facility for covid patients, on December 15.
Sources say he is recovering well and could be discharged soon. Bhargava head the apex body for overall covid outbreak management in India. He is on a three-year deputation as the Director-General of ICMR.

The ICMR chief also holds the post of Secretary in the Department of Health Research, a division under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, government of India. He is the recipient of Padma Shri award too.
As per the latest information, India has recorded a total of one crore COVID-19 cases. But the good news is the mortality rate and active cases are on sustained decline. At present, there are 3.10 lakh active cases.
