850 doctors resign

As many as 868 junior doctors posted at Covid first-line treatment centres (FLTCs) across Kerala have resigned over salary cut.

These doctors were among 1,080 MBBS graduates who had passed out from the government medical colleges and recruited as Temporary Medical Officers. They were recruited for three months to make up with human resource crisis amidst covid outbreak.

Reportedly, they have given two weeks’ notice to the government to give ear to their demands.

While they were promised Rs 42,000 a month, what each finally gets is Rs 27,000, a TOI report says.

“From the amount, Rs 8,400 was deducted in the name of the government’s salary challenge, apart from TDS and professional tax. Now, we are getting only Rs 27,000,” Dr Ousam Hussain KP, state president of Kerala junior doctors association 2020-21, was quoted saying by the report.
