National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), MInistry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India, has fixed prices of 40 formulations, including statins and some other popular cardiovascular and diabetes drugs.

“NPPA has fixed retail prices of 40 formulations under Drugs Prices Control Order (DPCO) 2013 based on its 75th authority meeting held on May 20, 2020,” the regulator said in a notification, as per a ET report.


NPPA, the drug pricing regulator has authority to revise the prices of drugs and formulations. In addition, the agency ensures availability of medicines in the country,.

According to the notification, the regulator has reduced the maximum retail price (MRP) of a new class of drugs, including statins, diabetes drugs, combination drugs like voglibose + metformin, glimepiride + metformin tablet, among others.
