In an endeavour to strengthen existing healthcare infrastructure, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) recently inaugurated 45 Basti Dawakhanas. Out of these, 22 were inaugurated in Hyderabad, 15 in Medchal, 5 in Rangareddy and three in Sangareddy.
Minister for Municipal Adminstration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao inaugurated two Basti Dawakhanas at Erragadda and Yousufguda in Hyderabad while minister Malla Reddy opened a Basti Dawakhana at KPHB fourth phase, and minister Talasani at Monda Market division, a report said.
With the newly opened 45 Dawakhanas, the total number of Basti Dawakhanas in the state mounts to 168. 123 are already operational in the GHMC limits covering Hyderabad, Medchal, and Ranga Reddy.
With an objective to provide accessible and affordable medical facilities, the Telangana government introduced the Basti Dawakhanas concept in the city. The initiative is jointly managed by National Health Mission and GHMC. Dawakhanas open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm.
These offer services including OPD, consultation, basic lab diagnosis, and screening of non communicable diseases like BP and sugar. The first such Dawakhana was launched in the city on April 6, 2018 at BJR Nagar.
