The Greater Chennai Corporation has come up with a novel plan to make people safe from Coronavirus. As per the plan, every household within the city limit would be surveyed by health workers for people with fever, flu or other symptoms of Covid-19.
As per a Economic Times report, houses have been divided into clusters which will be surveyed by a team of health workers.
S P Velumani, minister, local bodies the report stating that 10 lakh houses in the city were divided into 13,100 clusters of 75 to 100 houses each. Each cluster would be surveyed by 16,000 workers, he said. Starting from April 5, the exercise would be carried out every day for the next 90 days.
The plan has been devised to put a stop on the rising cases of COVID-19. It is a part of several measures to be implemented by the civic body to break the chain of infection. Till Saturday, 4th April, Chennai district had 88 positive cases. In case of regular fever or flu, health workers would provide regular medicine otherwise they would refer the individual to the nearest primary health centre.
Every detail about fever or flu would be tabulated and a database would be created after each day’s survey for further study, the minister was quoted by the report.
The workers would be trained on what kind of questions would be asked. They would also get safety kits including suits, gloves and masks and remuneration of Rs 15,000 per month.
