Coronavirus in India

With 773 new infections reported in the past 24 hours, the total cases of COVID-19 have crossed 5,000 mark. Total Covid-19 cases rose to 5,194 with Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Delhi are among the worst affected States and Union Territories.

As per the data from the Health Ministry, the total death toll has climbed to 149 while 401 patients have been cured of the virus or discharged. Maharashtra has 1,018 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu at 690 and Delhi at 576. Maharashtra recorded 12 deaths on Tuesday leading to a spike in total tally of death to 64.

As many as 25 deaths were reported on Tuesday. Among them was a 14-month-old boy, possibly the youngest Indian victim of the virus who died at the state-run hospital in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

Delhi has 576 Covid-19 cases and nine deaths, with two fatalities recorded on Tuesday.

One of the worrying facts about the Covid-19 situation in Delhi is that as many as 35 patients admitted in various hospitals currently require ICU support. Another 27 are on oxygen, which shows that their lung function is compromised

Earlier this week, health ministry officials had linked about 1,500 coronavirus cases in India to the Tablighi Jamaat event held in Delhi last month.

Kerala, which was among the worst affected states, has been recording lower count of Covid-19
