All India Ophthalmic Society held its very important Cataract Surgery Expert Group meeting on 2nd October 2019 in Delhi. The group has 35 renowned Cataract surgeons & researchers from all over the India. Varanasi boasts of two young eye doctors included in this expert group. Dr Deepak Mishra & Dr Pratyush Ranjan of Varanasi participated in this meeting.

The mandate of this expert group is to formulate guidelines for all eye doctors across India about Small Incision Cataract Surgery this will be sent as recommendations from All India Ophthalmic society to government of India, state governments & various private stakeholders like insurance companies.

The guideline will help deliver quality surgical service to patients, raising the standards from the current level.

Dr Deepak Mishra is working as assistant professor at regional institute of ophthalmology, Banaras Hindu University. Dr Mishra is also chairman, scientific committee of Uttar Pradesh State Ophthalmic Society. He has authored more than 50 research papers and more than 10 books & chapters.

Dr Pratyush Ranjan is working as Cataract, Refractive & Glaucoma specialist at ASG Super speciality eye hospital, Mahmoorgunj. Dr Ranjan has experience of more than 40,000 cataract surgeries, which includes complex cataract surgeries and premium intraocular lens implant.  Dr Ranjan has innovated a new technique of cataract surgery, called Ranjan’s Manual small incision cataract surgery (R-MSICS) & Combined cataract & glaucoma surgery called infinity incision. He has also designed two surgical instruments used in cataract surgery, the Ranjan MSICS Marker & the Carter.
