In an endeavour to enable specialists to perform surgery in a more precise manner, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, has integrated Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical system into the existing machinery of delivery of care.

The Robotic Surgical system, the most advanced Robotic surgery technology in the world, will be leveraged in areas of Urology, Oncology, Gynaecology, Head & Neck, and Gastrointestinal surgery.

The new Da Vinci Xi System acts as an extension of the doctor’s hands, allowing him or her to perform a surgery with pinpoint accuracy and very little damage to surrounding tissues. It will integrate skilled surgeons with advanced technology to aid in conducting complex surgical procedures. Designed for performing high precision surgeries, the surgical system will be operated by a specialized team of trained surgeons.

Speaking how the Robotic system would be helpful, Dr Anil Heroor, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology & HOD-Colorectal Surgery, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, “Use of this robotic surgical system will dramatically increase precision, visualization, and dexterity with which the surgical procedures will be conducted; greatly benefitting the physicians and the patients. For patients, this will mean smaller incisions, shorter recovery time, and reduced incidences of hospitalization and its cost implications.”

The advantages to the patient are manifold including reduced hospital stay, faster recovery, reduced risk of incision site infection, and minimal blood loss. In addition, it will enable the preservation of healthy tissues and significantly less scarring. The biggest advantage is these procedures are nearly pain-free with a drastic reduction in analgesic need.  The program may also enable many procedures to be carried out on single day hospitalization.

Dr. Pankaj Maheshwari Chief of Urology, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, “Patients who will undergo robotic surgery to correct their urological issues, mainly urological cancers, and reconstructive procedures, will benefit immensely; the surgery will leave lesser scars, rapid return to continence and easier recovery of sexual function.

Dr. S Narayani, Zonal Director, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, “The robotic system is one of the finest creations enabling complex surgery with high levels of patient safety. I am pleased to have this technology in Fortis Hospital, Mulund to take surgical care to another level.”
