To provide health insurance under Ayushman Bharat” Swasthya Sathi scheme that covers 10 million families the West Bengal government is in talks with insurance provider Bajaj Allianz.

As per sources, the company has agreed to do so at an average premium of Rs 590 per family.

Initially, West Bengal was reluctant to join Ayushman Bharat and wants to run its own health insurance scheme called Swasthya Sathi, launched in 2016.

But as per last week developments, the state government signed an agreement to merge the two schemes and implement it under the banner Ayushman Bharat – Swasthya Sathi.

Though, the insurance provider has already in agreement with the state for its Swasthya Sathi scheme, under which it provides Rs 150,000 cover per family to around 6.3 million families. It offers basic health coverage for secondary and tertiary care.

Now, discussions are underway to cover additional beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat-Swasthya Sathi, with all preexisting diseases covered from the first day of the policy.
