The Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, on Monday underwent a successful kidney transplant at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.


65-year-old Jaitley is stable and recovering fine, an official at the premier health institute said. He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday.

“Union Minister Jaitley underwent a renal transplant today. The surgery has been successful. Both the donor and the recipient are stable and recovering well,” a senior AIIMS official said.

The Finance Minister suffering from kidney ailment has been undergoing dialysis since last one month.


Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has wished him good health and speedy recovery.

“Happy to know about the successful kidney transplant surgery of Shri Arun Jaitley at AIIMS, Delhi. I pray for his and the donor’s quick recovery and good health,” Singh writes on twitter.

In April, the Finance Minister had made a tweet saying he was working from controlled environment from home due to kidney-related problems.

“I am being treated for kidney-related problems and certain infections that I have contracted. I am therefore currently working from controlled environment at home. The future course of my treatment would be determined by the doctors treating me,” he had tweeted.

Earlier in 2014 too, Jaitley underwent a gastric-bypass surgery for diabetes control.
