Uttar Pradesh Minister of Women and Child Welfare Rita Bahuguna Joshi recently launched a campaign titled Ek Vriksha Ka Daan, Navjaat Shishu Ke Naam’ at Lucknow with an aim to ensure protection of the environment to ensure a healthy future for children.

Joshi gifted saplings to the parents of newly-born babies at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.

This is the first-of-its-kind initiative which has emotional connect with the environment. A new lesson is being taught with different style which is certainly result oriented. If we can ensure plantation of new saplings with the birth of each child then per day approximately 75,000 saplings will be planted and these will grow into trees and make the nation pollution-free, Joshi said on the occasion.

Joshi was accompanied by Sarvesh Tiwari, Founder and Managing Director, PR Professionals, who plans take the initiative to all the major hospitals across the country.

Under this initiative, the parents of newly-born babies will be gifted a sapling and each gifted sapling would be named after the baby. The idea behind the concept is to take care of the saplings in the same way as that of new-born babies. The parents would be encouraged to plant the gifted sapling at their homes, look after them and see them grow along with their babies.

I believe its moral and social responsibility of each of us to take care of our environment to ensure better future for the generations to come. We will be taking this movement pan- India to ensure maximum participation of countrymen, said Tiwari while expressing his thoughts on the campaign.
