The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) together with Food Fortification Resource Centre (FFRC) recently emphasized on the fortification of food standards by increasing the awareness level of the people across  the society .


Pawan Agarwal, CEO, FSSAI, on Friday underlined the importance of micro-nutrients in the dietary habit of citizens especially for women who are expecting.

During his address, Agarwal said micronutrients like Iron, Iodine, Vitamin B12, A & D, and Folic Acid for pregnant and lactating women and infants; deficiency of which causes birth defects like paralysis, polio and others in infants, which are commonly seen in the northern parts of the country mainly Punjab, Haryana etc.

The regulatory authority of food safety and standardisation embarked to alter the nutrition landscape of the country to shape healthier lives and healthy living standards.
