Global biopharmaceutical leader AstraZeneca has announced a ₹166 crore investment to expand its Global Hub in Bengaluru, reinforcing India’s growing role in global healthcare advancement. This strategic development adds 400 new positions, increasing the total workforce at the Bengaluru facility to nearly 1,300 professionals.

This is AstraZeneca’s second major expansion in India within a year, following the recent growth of its Global Innovation and Technology Centre (GITC) in Chennai. Together, the expansions bring the company’s total India workforce to close to 4,000 employees.

The Bengaluru hub will play a central role in AstraZeneca’s strategic vision to deliver 20 new medicines by 2030, accelerating AI-powered research, clinical development, digital health, and data analytics. It will serve as a high-impact centre driving the company’s global priorities across Research & Development (R&D), Global Business Services (GBS), IT, and regulatory sciences.

The expanded facility will focus on:

• Supporting advanced clinical research across AstraZeneca’s global therapeutic areas
• Developing AI-powered healthcare solutions and next-gen digital health technologies
• Enhancing clinical trial efficiency and patient outcomes through centralised data analytics
• Providing specialised support for regulatory compliance and pharmacovigilance

The Government of Karnataka has hailed the expansion as a strong endorsement of the state’s growing influence as a life sciences and biotech powerhouse.

Sustainability at the Core

AstraZeneca has also reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability through the new Bengaluru facility. Designed with LEED Platinum certification in mind, the hub is currently powered by 75% green energy, incorporates IoT-enabled energy management systems, and full wastewater recycling, marking a significant step toward the company’s net-zero emissions goal.
