Gleneagles Hospital Chennai and Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at fostering innovation at the intersection of artificial intelligence and neurological healthcare.

The partnership was officially inaugurated with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Dr. Nageshwar Rao, CEO of Gleneagles Hospital Chennai, and Dr. T. Thyagarajan, Pro Vice-Chancellor of VIT. The ceremonial event saw the participation of leading figures from both institutions, including Dr. Dinesh Nayak, Dr. Sangeetha, and Dr. Natesan Damodaran from Gleneagles Hospital, alongside Dr. Shridevi, Dr. Ganesan, and Dr. Suganya representing VIT.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Rao emphasised the importance of integrating technology into India’s healthcare ecosystem. “This collaboration is a pivotal move towards transforming real-world clinical challenges into accessible, tech-driven solutions. It’s about empowering patients through innovation,” he noted.

The partnership aims to establish a dynamic platform for co-creating AI-enabled tools and systems tailored to address complex neurological disorders. Key research areas under the initiative include:

• Neuroinformatics and brain imaging
• Artificial intelligence and machine learning in diagnostics
• IoT-enabled wearable health tech
• Rehabilitation robotics and gait-assistive devices
• AR/VR tools for advanced neurological assessment

These efforts will bolster treatment approaches across specialities such as epilepsy management, neuro-oncology, cognitive disorder care, and neuro-rehabilitation.

Gleneagles Hospital Chennai, equipped with advanced clinical infrastructure and multidisciplinary expertise, will play a pivotal role in identifying real-time medical problems and mentoring student researchers. The hospital’s team of neurologists and specialists will also support the validation and clinical trial stages of emerging prototypes.

On the academic front, VIT will leverage its engineering capabilities to design AI architectures, develop software platforms, and contribute to academic research, IP development, and the commercialisation of innovations. The collaboration is structured to ensure that solutions are not only scientifically sound but also scalable and affordable.
