With the Indian healthcare ecosystem increasingly embracing integrative and tech-enabled care, homoeopathy is poised to play a pivotal role in bridging traditional wisdom with modern medicine. In this context, Pratik Shrestha, Managing Director of SBL Pvt. Ltd., shares exclusive insights with Dr. Asawari Savant, from Elets News Network (ENN), on how innovation, policy, and technology can accelerate the mainstreaming of homoeopathy in India’s evolving health landscape. Edited excerpts
Homoeopathy, Ayurveda and other allied healthcare modalities have seen increased recognition under India’s Ayush system. How do you see its role evolving in the mainstream healthcare landscape, especially with the government’s push for integrative medicine?

The government’s emphasis on integrative medicine presents a major opportunity for healthcare innovation. At SBL, we see homoeopathy as a complementary discipline that aligns well with the goals of modern, patient-centric care, especially in preventive health. With increasing consumer interest in natural solutions and the government’s support through the AYUSH framework, there’s a clear pathway for integrating time-tested practices with contemporary clinical systems. The focus now must be on delivering these solutions through quality-driven, scalable, and tech-enabled platforms that can work in tandem with conventional medicine.

The Ministry of AYUSH has taken proactive steps to promote traditional medicine. What policy interventions or collaborations can accelerate the integration of homoeopathy with modern medical systems?

To ensure effective integration, policy frameworks should promote cross-disciplinary collaboration, especially in clinical settings. We advocate for stronger regulatory mechanisms around quality control and manufacturing, as well as public-private partnerships that foster clinical validation and data sharing. By embedding integrative care models into medical education and incentivising research at the intersection of traditional and modern medicine, the ecosystem will evolve faster. Digital health records and interoperable systems can also enhance collaboration between disciplines, bringing better outcomes for patients.
There’s often scepticism around homoeopathy due to the lack of large-scale clinical trials. How is SBL contributing to its scientific validation, and what role do R&D and technology play here?
We understand that scalability and scientific rigour are essential for wider adoption. At SBL, we invest significantly in clinical research and technological innovation. Through collaborations with academic and research institutions, we’re conducting structured in vitro and in vivo studies to back the efficacy of our solutions. Additionally, our manufacturing facilities follow GMP standards and incorporate advanced quality assurance systems, helping build trust. We also use data-driven product development strategies to enhance the precision and personalisation of treatments.
With lifestyle diseases on the rise, how can integrative approaches support conventional care, and what innovations is SBL bringing to the table?
Modern healthcare is moving towards personalisation and prevention, especially in managing chronic lifestyle conditions. Our approach at SBL is to offer evidence-based solutions that augment conventional treatments, improving patient outcomes, reducing side effects, and enhancing quality of life. We’ve developed targeted formulations that focus on key issues such as stress, metabolic health, and immune resilience. Our tech-driven platforms support practitioners in integrating these therapies seamlessly into care pathways.

The global market for complementary and integrative medicine is expanding. What trends are shaping the homoeopathy industry globally, and how is SBL positioning itself to leverage these?
We’re seeing three strong global trends: the surge in demand for clean-label, natural therapies; the shift towards personalised medicine; and the mainstreaming of digital health platforms. Post-pandemic, there’s a heightened focus on resilience, prevention, and holistic well-being, creating space for solutions like homoeopathy. At SBL, we’re aligning our strategy with these trends by digitising consumer access, advancing teleconsultation tools, and investing in international regulatory pathways. We’re also building alliances with healthcare providers to embed our solutions into broader therapeutic ecosystems.
Despite private sector interest, public institutions and insurance frameworks have been slower in adopting integrative medicine. What steps can help increase the adoption of homoeopathy in the public healthcare and insurance sectors?
Integration at the systemic level will require policy reform, clinical evidence, and cost-effectiveness data. The government can facilitate this by formally recognising homoeopathy within public health schemes and incentivising hospitals to adopt integrated care teams. Meanwhile, insurers should be encouraged to pilot coverage for chronic care using integrative models, particularly where long-term cost savings can be demonstrated. Creating digital health frameworks that include homoeopathy could also improve visibility and integration within national health platforms.
As a third-generation leader, what is your long-term vision for SBL and the evolving homoeopathy sector in India, especially from a healthcare innovation standpoint?
My vision is to elevate SBL from a heritage brand to a global leader in evidence-based, technology-enabled integrative healthcare. We aim to be at the forefront of R&D, digital transformation, and personalised care delivery within this space. Over the next decade, as regulatory frameworks mature and consumer demand for integrative solutions rises, homoeopathy will find a solid place within mainstream healthcare. Our role is to lead this change through innovation, clinical validation, and strategic partnerships, making holistic health more accessible and data-driven.
