In a strategic leadership transition aligned with its long-term vision, Torrent Pharmaceuticals has announced the appointment of Aman Mehta, currently Executive Director, as Managing Director, effective August 1, 2025. This move signals the entry of the third generation of the Mehta family into the top leadership of the pharma major, a core company of the $5.3 billion Torrent Group.

Aman Mehta, 33, is the elder son of current Chairman Samir Mehta and has been a Whole-Time Director on the board since 2022. His elevation reflects the group’s deliberate approach to succession planning and a renewed focus on building a future-ready, innovation-driven leadership framework.

“This appointment reflects our continued commitment to nurturing a strong leadership team that can drive sustainable growth, operational excellence, and strategic innovation in a competitive healthcare landscape,” the company said in a statement.

From Strategy to Execution: Driving Growth Across Key Verticals

Since joining the Torrent Group in 2013, Aman has held key positions across the conglomerate’s pharma and power businesses. At Torrent Pharma, he currently oversees the India and Rest of the World (RoW) business, the company’s largest revenue contributor. He has played a pivotal role in executing strategic acquisitions and business transformations.

One of his standout contributions includes the successful integration of Unichem’s domestic business, acquired for ₹3,600 crore in 2017, which significantly expanded Torrent’s product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities. More recently, he led the acquisition and integration of Curatio Healthcare, strengthening the company’s position in the dermatology and consumer health segments.

Under his leadership, the company has seen:

• Expansion of market share through organic growth and in-licensing strategies
• Revival of the cardiac and diabetes portfolio, with notable improvements in ranking and performance
• Launch of a consumer health division, reflecting Torrent’s diversification into high-growth OTC segments
• Sharper alignment of R&D priorities with commercial strategies, accelerating product development cycles
• Operational excellence initiatives across manufacturing and supply chain to drive cost efficiencies and productivity

Aman’s appointment as MD marks a continuation of a legacy that began with his grandfather, Uttambhai Nathalal Mehta, who founded Torrent Pharma in 1959 after starting as a medical representative at Sandoz. Over the decades, the group has evolved into a diversified business entity with a significant footprint in pharmaceuticals, power, gas, hospitals, diagnostics, and renewable energy.

While Samir Mehta continues to serve as Chairman of Torrent Pharma, Aman’s younger brother, Shaan Mehta, currently leads strategic planning within the company. Their cousins, Jinal and Varun Mehta, hold senior leadership roles at Torrent Power.

Aman holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Boston University and an MBA from Columbia Business School, New York. His global academic background and cross-sector experience bring a strategic edge to Torrent Pharma as it navigates complex global regulatory environments and explores emerging markets and therapeutic areas.
