IIIT Bhopal

In a major stride toward strengthening India’s innovation-led healthcare ecosystem, the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bhopal has been awarded four high-impact research projects under the Government of India’s flagship Partnerships for Accelerated Innovation and Research (PAIR) programme, spearheaded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF).

The institute’s winning proposals focus on transformative areas such as Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare, Medical Technology, and Advanced Materials, and were developed in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore, which will serve as the hub institution. This selection places IIIT Bhopal among an elite group of only seven institutions nationwide chosen from a pool of 30 finalists after a rigorous, multi-phase national evaluation conducted at the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru, in March 2025.

The approved consortium of “hub and spoke” institutions is set to receive a cumulative research grant of ₹100 crore, reflecting the Centre’s strong commitment to enabling deep-tech R&D for critical sectors such as healthcare.

“This is a landmark achievement for our institute and a reflection of the research culture we are building. Our global academic exposure and collaborative strengths are enabling us to contribute meaningfully to India’s innovation goals, particularly in AI-enabled healthcare advancements,” said Prof. Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Director of IIIT Bhopal

These research projects are poised to support national priorities in predictive diagnostics, digital health infrastructure, and next-generation medical devices—domains that are increasingly vital for scalable, accessible, and technology-driven healthcare delivery models across India and beyond.

A Boost to India’s Innovation Ecosystem in Healthcare

IIIT Bhopal’s inclusion in this highly competitive initiative underscores the growing role of emerging academic institutions in shaping India’s R&D trajectory. The focus on applied innovation in healthcare technology aligns with national missions like Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and complements industry efforts to bridge gaps in diagnostics, chronic disease monitoring, and rural healthcare access through AI and data-driven platforms.

This development is expected to create new pathways for academia-industry partnerships, collaborative technology transfer, and accelerated commercialisation of research outcomes for the broader healthcare market.
