The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, graced the 8th Foundation Day celebration of the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) under the Ministry of Ayush today. The prestigious event, held at AIIA’s New Delhi campus, was also attended by Shri Vinay Kumar Saxena, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi; Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush; Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush; and Prof. (Dr.) Tanuja Nesari, Director, AIIA, along with senior officials and faculty members from the institute.

In her address, President Murmu congratulated AIIA on its remarkable journey and the completion of seven successful years in promoting Ayurvedic medicine. She also inaugurated the Ayush Aushadhi Pharmacy Programme and unveiled the Shashwat Ayush Expo, which are pivotal milestones in making Ayurvedic healthcare more accessible. The pharmacy is aimed at providing high-quality Ayurvedic medicines to people across India, reinforcing Ayurveda’s role in the nation’s healthcare system.

The President also expressed her appreciation for the institute’s growing impact. Over the years, AIIA has treated more than 27 lakh patients through its 44 specialty clinics, while establishing seven new Health and Wellness Centers across the country. The institute has strengthened its global presence, having signed 73 national and international Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance collaboration in research and education related to Ayurveda.

Reflecting on India’s rich heritage, President Murmu said, “Ayurveda is one of the oldest holistic medical systems in the world, focusing on harmony between mind, body, and spirit. It is a valuable legacy, and through the efforts of the Ministry of Ayush, it is being established as an authentic medical system. The Ministry’s initiatives in education, research, and the quality control of medicines over the past decade have played a key role in mainstreaming traditional medical systems.”

President Murmu also highlighted the AIIA’s role in medical tourism, stating that the institute’s Goa campus is emerging as a major center for Traditional Medical Value Travel and Health Tourism. She emphasized the importance of advancing Ayurveda on a global platform using evidence-based and scientific approaches, noting that this year’s Ayurveda Day theme—”Ayurveda Innovation for Global Health”—is both timely and significant in promoting Ayurveda globally.

Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Vinay Kumar Saxena, commended AIIA’s journey, noting, “Since its establishment in 2014, AIIA has instilled new hope in healthcare systems worldwide. Over the years, the institute has positively impacted the health of more than 28 lakh individuals across a range of specialties.”

Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, praised AIIA’s pioneering contributions, stating that “The Ministry of Ayush, under the guidance of our Hon’ble Prime Minister, is set to expand the presence of Ayurveda with the announcement of 10 new Ayurvedic institutes across the country in the next five years.” He also announced the Ayush Aushadhi Kendras, which aim to provide authentic and affordable Ayurvedic medicines to rural areas, further promoting accessibility and affordability in healthcare.

In his welcome address, Secretary of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, said, “The success of AIIA is an invaluable contribution to the health and welfare of the country, setting a benchmark in integrating traditional medicine into India’s healthcare system. The institute not only treats patients but also focuses on awareness, research, and furthering the success of Ayurveda in modern healthcare.”

The celebration of AIIA’s 8th Foundation Day is a testament to its relentless pursuit of excellence in healthcare, with a focus on promoting a balanced lifestyle and yoga. AIIA’s holistic approach, based on the principles of Ayurveda, offers vital solutions for both individual well-being and environmental health, particularly in an era of increasing environmental degradation.
