NEET

The National Testing Agency (NTA) may conduct National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) twice in a year from 2021 like JEE mains, though the proposal is in nascent stage.

Reports say that final decision in this regard would be taken after getting approval from the Union Health Ministry.

Providing reason for the proposal Vineet Joshi was quoted by Indian Express saying, “We have received lots of communications from the students and teachers across the country and are, therefore, thinking of conducting it twice a year, like the JEE Main.”

Clarifying about 2020 NEET exam he said that there would be no change in the schedule and if we get approval it will be implemented from 2021.

Currently the NEET entrance exam is conducted once in a year to provide admission to MBBS courses in medical colleges across the country.

Till date, the separate exam was being conducted for admission in AIIMS and JIPMER. As per recent order by Health Ministry, now admission in these premier medical institutes will be on the basis of NEET exam only.

The proposal for conducting NEET exam twice in a year is being considered as an entire year goes waste if a student fails to qualify in the exam. In 2018, Prakash Javadekar, former minister of Human Resource Development, had announced that the candidates would be able to appear for the entrance test twice and that the best score would be taken into consideration for admission. This ought to improve the number of candidates qualifying the examination if implemented in the coming years.

As per schedule, NEET 2020 will be conducted on May 3 and the online registration for the same will commence on December 2, 2019.
