CareFusion and Cerner Corporation have entered into an agreement to integrate their technologies to close the current communication gap between healthcare devices and information technology. The integration and greater system interoperability will help hospitals and healthcare providers deliver better patient care. The agreement covers improved data communication between CareFusion Pyxis medication dispensing, supply and anaesthesiology systems and CareAware, Cerner’s integrated device connectivity architecture, which reduces medication errors, improves clinician workflow and increases patient safety. Under the agreement, the two companies will also develop a Pyxis health IT adaptor, which is expected to support the integration of EHR systems and clinical information in the medication management, pharmacy and perioperative processes. The integration will also allow hospitals to close the loop between the clinical and logistical medication and supply management processes through the convergence of medical devices and healthcare information technology.
