Kerala introduces SMS for better health

Addressing to healthcare in Kerala is just a SMS away, now. According to Dr Rathan U Kelkar, Director, Kerala State Information Technology Mission (KSITM), the state has introduced Dr SMS, which is a free service that makes health facilities, available to people through the use of mobile. KSITM is an autonomous body which implements e-governance projects for the state government.

Dr. SMS is a novel project of the Kerala State IT Mission – the technology implementation wing of the Government of Kerala in India, launched on 29th May 2008 with the aim to increase access of health care services by common people through simple and innovative use of mobile telephony.

Multi-disciplinary health care village planned in Kerala
Multi-disciplinary health care village planned in Kerala

A multi-disciplinary health care village has been proposed on 40 hectares of land in Kozhikode as part of providing integrated treatment facilities from all scientific streams of medicine. Conceived by Infrastructures Kerala Limited (InKEL), the village, to be completed in four years, is estimated to cost Rs.417 crore.
