Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has been upgraded to the level of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
In this regard, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was exchanged between Union Ministries of HRD, Health and Family Welfare and Uttar Pradesh government.
“It is a historic moment and a dream that has become reality today”, said Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on the occasion.
IMS-BHU will get additional beds and super specialty health facilities and will not face any financial constraints for its upgradation into AIIMS, assured HRD minister.
The institute is likely to get the appointment of over 2500 staff and a team of dedicated medical and Paramedical staff and it will emerge as a premier world-class institute
AIIMS is the brand name and IMS-BHU has all the potentials to emerge as the world-class institute that will serve nearly one-sixth of country’s population, said Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda.
The Director, AIIMS, New Delhi, Prof Randeep Guleria was also present on the occasion.
