The Union Health Ministry has approved Rs 18.71 crore under the National Health Mission (NHM) programme to Kerala. It will be an additional grant apart from Rs 600 crore granted by the Central Government.
This is to provide extra support for village health, sanitation and nutrition committees in flood-ravaged Kerala.
Moreover, a total of 3,757 medical relief camps have already been set-up by the health ministry.
“Health Ministry approves the additional grant of Rs 18.71 crore under NHM to Kerala for disbursing to Village Health, Sanitation & Nutrition Committees for Kerala flood relief, as per State request, the Health Minister announced on twitter.
The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has already issued health advisories to support the State in meeting with challenges when the threat of waterborne, vector-borne and viral hepatitis diseases becomes potent.
In a statement issued earlier, the ministry had said 65 metric tonnes of emergency drugs for flood situation were airlifted by the Indian Air Force to Thiruvananthapuram while one crore chlorine tablets were sent and another one crore are in transit.
So far, no outbreak of communicable disease has been reported from the flood-ravaged state.
The flood has already claim 231 lives since August 8, and still, 10.40 lakh people are in relief camps.
