D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre, in conversation with Elets News Network (ENN).

Q P. D. Hinduja hospital is one of the most trusted healthcare brands in Mumbai. What distinguishes it from others in terms of cost efficiency and quality healthcare delivery?

Quality Healthcare for All has been the vision of P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre since its inception. The goal of the organisation is to provide medical facilities at affordable price.

Our founder, Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja used to believe that education and healthcare are the birthright of every citizen and he wanted to create an institution, which could provide Quality Healthcare for All so that no Indian would have to travel abroad for quality treatment.

The hospital has been following this principle religiously. The hospital has always been a front-runner in adopting the latest technology and services like Gamma Knife, Digital Broadband MRI, True Beam Linear Accelerator, and Integrated Robotic System which make us provide quality treatment to one and all. The hospital focuses on three pillars, i.e clinical services, education and research which has helped in making it a world class medical centre today with the best of doctors, specialised nurses and many other care givers who have been working with the hospital for more than two to three decades.

In line with our vision of Quality Healthcare for All, the hospital runs a rural health program, providing free medical services to rural population in Jawahar Taluka in Maharashtra and in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, through 12 state-of-the-art mobile health vans.

Q What kind of services Hinduja hospital caters to people? Shed some light over specialties including Minimal Access Surgery and Interventional Radiology?

Being a multi-speciality tertiary care hospital, we offer a range of speciality services. The healthcare services range from investigation and diagnostics to therapy, surgery and post-operative care in more than 45 specialties.

When medical professionals from different specialities come together, it helps the treating doctor to get a 360-degree view on illness and offer the best possible solution.

Minimal Access Surgery (MAS) unlike the traditional forms of surgery allows surgeons to operate without making large incisions. Surgical experts at Hinduja Hospital use MAS for dealing with a variety of abdominal problems as well as for treating diseases in the chest.

The techniques used in Interventional Radiology offer new treatment options for many conditions, allowing patients to be treated with less risk and shorter hospital stays.

True Beam Linear Accelerator “ one of the advanced medical equipment helps in complex cases of cancer of the lung, breast, stomach and brain. The hospital has also introduced the Prone Breast Radiation Therapy with the specialised table that helps targeted treatment in breast cancer patients. This is for the first time in India.

Q Tell us something about special services under Centres of Excellence.

The Centres of Excellence are dedicated healthcare centres that focus on issues that affect people at large. The idea behind this initiative was to bring the best of international medical practices home and thus provide quality healthcare. Our five Centres of Excellence are: Surgical Solutions for Obesity, IVF, Short Stay Service, Preventive Healthcare and Care@Home. Each of these special service centres is helmed by nationally and internationally acclaimed experts. Of these 2 services i.e Short Stay and Care@Home are unique concepts launched by our hospital that have turned around the care delivery time for patients. Short Stay Service, a unique concept service can be defined as a dedicated hospital within a hospital with an exclusive service experience and quick turnaround for people with less serious surgery needs. It requires a short stay at the hospital. Also, out of the 45 key specialties that we offer, our major thrust for 360 degree healthcare delivery is focused on four areas, i.e Onco Care, Neuro Care, Ortho Care and Cardio Care with niche experts available in these super specialities

Q How has the hospital harnessed latest technology and innovations to cater people the best services?

The hospital has always been an early adopter of technology to provide the best of quality medical care at an affordable cost. We were the first hospital in India to install a Gamma Knife, one of the few institutions to have a PET CT, Linear Accelerator with Multileaf Collimeter (MLC) and Micro MLC. The hospital also boasts of the Radial Lounge, the first of its kind in India to carry out Coronary Angiography from hand in a sitting position; NAT Blood Testing, state-ofthe-art Guided Air Flow OTs, a fully equipped Bone Marrow Transplant unit, an integrated Robotic system, indigenously developed Hospital Information Management System (HIMS), ISO certified Information Security and many more, thereby pioneering the new look of healthcare itself, in India. We have also launched several initiatives to enhance patient experience like online appointment booking, online bill payments, viewing reports online and single point resolution of patient grievances. Quality of Care rather than ROI has always guided the hospital. The returns have followed both tangibly and through recognition.

Q Off-late Mumbai and Pune have emerged as a hub for healthcare start-ups. What makes them an ideal choice?

For startups to flourish, one needs a conducive state policy. Karnataka (Bengaluru) sowed the seed of start-up culture. This was followed by Andhra Pradesh (Hyderabad – now Telangana) and Maharashtra (Mumbai and Pune). For healthcare start-ups Mumbai offers some of the best hospitals in the country. This state probably has the most number of branded hospitals in the country with many internationally acclaimed doctors and good policies, thus making it very conducive for being the idea choice by many healthcare start-ups
