Indo-UK-Institute-of-HealthMaharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday laid the foundation stone of the first Indo UK Institute of Health (IUIH) at Multi-modal International Passenger and Cargo Hub Airport in Nagpur (MIHAN) ”the project, which is a part of the proposal for setting up 11 new IUIHs in India.

Aiming to boost Indias healthcare system, Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to UK in November 2015 announced 11 IUIHs for India with an investment of Rs 17,600 crore in partnerships with the UKs National Health Services (NHS) organisations, along with universities and private sector companies.

The IUIH, Nagpur, is being developed in association with Kings College Hospital, London with an investment of Rs 1,600 crore slated to be completed by 2019. The Medicity is said to have 250 beds and more to be accompanied in the later phase, Fadnavis said adding it would provide jobs to about two lakh  Nagpurians.

According to IUIH, the 11 Indo UK Institutes of Health across India will build a capacity of 11,000 beds, 5,000 doctors, 25,000 nurses and generate direct and indirect employment for over 300,000 Indians, along with provisions of global standards of healthcare in India,  advanced medical R&D, training and education of doctors and nurses in both countries, state-of-the-art  facilities with extensive technology and innovation links.
