Pharma Major Lupin has appointed one of its co-founders Manju Deshbandhu Gupta as chairman of the company for a period of two years. She has been a member of the board since 40 years.
Her appointment is made after her husband and the founder & chairman of the company, Desh Bandhu Gupta, passed away on June 26, 2017.
“The board felt that this is a deserving recognition for one of the co-founders and first investor of the company and is an important step in ensuring continuity. This non-executive role will be for a period of two years,” Lupin said.
When starting up the firm, Desh Bandhu Gupta had burrowed Rs 5,000 from his wife Manju, and is credited with loaning the 1700 crore firm Lupin Limited.
Gupta said: “I am honored with the confidence that the board has placed in me and I look forward to working with the board to take Lupin to greater heights. I look upon my role as helping to take Dr. Deshbandhu Gupta’s legacy forward.”
