Blood relations can provide us funds to go to the doctor, but blood test will indicate whether treatment is actually required or may be suggested in some near future. In short, if we are able to maintain healthy blood, we can better take care of our blood relations, writes Nitin Nayyar, Coordinator-Scientific Communications, HORIBA Medical, New Delhi, in this insightful article.

Everybody is busy knowing what is going around the world? But what is going inside our body hardly matters to us. Not because we dont have time, but just because we are not interested enough, till we are forced to loose our materialistic gains due to poor health.

Although thousands of fluids are travelling inside our body with some of them well-established and some yet to be discovered sometime in future. However, blood is the only fluid which is known to all of us without exception as we can do anything and care most about our blood relations only.

Fortunately, blood is the only fluid that can give us the best picture about our general health and state of functioning of all vital organs. Somehow, we can say that if blood is flowing normal with its required components in correct proportion, we are probably going to lead healthy and functionally active life.

On the flipside, however, if blood shows variation from its normal contents, their presence, count or structure, etc, even a small deviation can indicate a big anomaly going on in our body. In brief, we can say that just like blood relations, blood test is also our most reliable resource that helps us during hours of need to take timely action.
Blood relations can provide us funds to go to the doctor, but blood test will indicate whether treatment is actually required or may be suggested in some near future. In short, if we are able to maintain healthy blood, we can better take care of our blood relations.

Testing of blood is one of the basic diagnostic tool in medical science. Blood test is prescribed by our treating doctor by the name of CBC which stands for Complete Blood Count. This test has around 18 parameters some of which are counted, some measured and other calculated with the help of measured parameters.

CBC test is done in two ways either manually or automated through simple analyser known as hematology analyser.
Manual method is time consuming and tedious but automated testing is done within a minute using small blood sample, and result can be obtained within minutes with better precision and accuracy.

All of us mostly go for this test whenever we have fever due to general seasonal infections, or other routine health problems based on our geography and lifestyle.

However, with the time changing too fast, health is becoming precious commodity which only few of us care about and able to maintain. But we generally tend to ignore the same, as we feel it is too technical and out of our understanding or it is the responsibility of the doctor and our role lies in just paying hefty cash to get ourselves treated.

But in reality this is neither true nor affordable. As an intelligent consumer of healthcare services, we all need to understand the importance of such a basic diagnostic test like CBC and use it to avoid unnecessary expenditure on futile and vicious treatments which may lead to negative consequences.

Salient features of CBC testing:

Most common test performed in all types of medical laboratories

CBC provides best picture of bodys health in an easily understandable form

Can be performed manually as well as through automated machines

Easy to understand and good to keep track of our day to day health variation

Report can be easily interpreted by general public as normal ranges are given alongside in the report.

Basic features of deficiency or probable outcomes can be easily understood using the CBC report, which will help in timely consultation to the desired medical specialist.
