The Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) has constituted the National Board for Promotion and Development of Yoga and Naturopathy with an aim to regulate education and practice of yoga and naturopathy in the country, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH, Shripad Yesso Naik said on Tuesday.

In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Naik said the ministry in association with Quality Council of India has also developed a scheme for voluntary certification of yoga professionals.

He also presented the total number of people who participated in the International Day of Yoga since 2015. While the details of participants in International Day of Yoga celebrations for 2017 is still awaited (51,000 participants in Lucknow), 8,17,611 people participated in 2015 and 10,64,205 in 2016.

Naik also informed the house that under the centrally sponsored scheme of National AYUSH Mission, as many as 25 ‘fifty-bedded’ integrated AYUSH hospitals with an outlay of Rs 145 crore were approved in 2016-17.
