For the second year in a row, Medtronic hosted the Medical Device Summit in New Delhi on 30th January 2016, bringing together leading national and international healthcare practitioners, research scientists, and business leaders. The theme of this years Summit was Technological Innovation, and speakers shared their views and latest updates on innovation and clinical outcomes driving the evolution of the healthcare ecosystem. The Summit addressed some of the key issues concerning Cardiac Care in India such as the need for standard treatment guidelines, skilled practitioners, advanced infrastructure and technology as a solution for improving patient outcomes and increasing access.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative at the Summit, cardiac specialists had the opportunity to experience hands-on simulations of current and upcoming innovative therapies and technologies for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases at Innovation Village. Disease conditions examined included bradycardia (slow heart rhythm), aortic stenosis (heart valve defect), coronary artery bypass graft surgery (bypass surgery), peripheral artery disease and angioplasty in patients with diabetes.

Medtronic, the global leader in medical technology, designed the Innovation Village with the objective of giving clinicians a look at future technologies and products under development that can address barriers to healthcare access in India while providing technologies with strong clinical evidence.
Dr. Atul Mathur, director, Interventional Cardiology, Escorts Heart Institute and Research Center, New Delhi, who convened a workshop at the Innovation Village, said, Opportunities that give clinicians a chance to update their knowledge through practical, hands-on exposure to new, cutting-edge technologies and products under development motivate them to manage their cases more effectively. The Innovation Village was an excellent way for us to examine up close the life-saving devices that are being used to treat cardiovascular disease around the world.

The Innovation Village was attended by more than 250 cardiologists from different parts of the country and leading medical institutions. Dr. Jagdish Prasad, Director General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, was the guest of honor at the summit.
