Medtronic has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for MiniMed Connect, which monitors glucose levels through a smartphone application.
According to company news release, MiniMed Connect allows diabetics to view their insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor data on a smartphone, and enables remote monitoring and text message notifications. The device, which fits on a keychain or in a pocket, also provides doctors with data so that they can adjust care plans. The device is compatible with Medtronic’s MiniMed 530G and Revel systems, and is expected to be available in the fall
“Engagement from people with diabetes, loved ones and healthcare providers is key to living well with diabetes. With MiniMed Connect, the entire care team can have access to critical diabetes data to inform the decisions that help people have better outcomes,” said Annette Brüls, Vice-president and General Manager, Medtronic diabetes services and solutions.
